Arno Babajanyan is one of the greatest Armenian
music geniuses of all time. Born in January of 1921, he passed away on
November 11 of 1983. His history is very unique in a sense that at age
five he was discovered by Aram Khachatryan (famous Armenian composer)
who suggested to Arno’s mathematician father for Arno to study music.
As a result he was admitted to the Yerevan Conservatory’s Gifted
Children’s group. Following that, he moved to Moscow and continued
his musical studies there including mastery of piano. Throughout his career
he has produced many concertos and more contemporary music which is cherished
by all even today. A sculpture of him was created by sculptor David Bejanyan and placed in Yerevan in 2003 with much controversy as to its nature. Some say it’s too caricature like and not worthy of him, never-the-less, he will always be remembered as one of the greatest Armenian composers and by his unforgettable music. To hear some of his music visit here or here. There are also talks about opening an Arno Babajanyan Museum in Yerevan. |

Monastery of Kecharis consists of several small and large structures built over 1000 years ago and extended to the 13th century. This complex is another must see while in Armenia where you can feel the history. The church is now in the city of Tsakhgadzor, it was not the case when it was first built. |

Monastery of Haghbat is located in the lush mountainous areas of Northern Armenia near Alaverdi. This is one of the three in the immediate area. Northern Avenue Although many of the building are not finished yet, it is apparent that this avenue is going to be really beautiful when finished. Many of the buildings have hints of Armenian architecture with modern design; also native stones are used extensively. Once finished, it will be a very desirable location with offices, apartments and stores on both sides of this pedestrian avenue. |

| Sergei Parajanov (Sarkis Paradjanian) was born in 1924 in Georgia. He was one of the best known film directors in the Soviet Union. Parajanov was inprisonned in a labor camp in 1973 for frivolous reasons; he was released four years later. The museum is in the house that was built for him, unfortunately he did not live long enough to see it finished, he died of cancer in Yerevan, in 1990. The house is now called Parajanov Museum and is open to the public. | |
